MEET ELIZABETH

Elizabeth Fuqua, L.Ac. is a Nationally Board Certified (NCCAOM) and state certified acupuncturist licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine. Elizabeth is a graduate of the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine’s Master of Science Degree in Acupuncture (M.S.Ac.) program. She has over a decade of experience helping to bring bodies into balance including her work as a Certified Yoga Instructor. Elizabeth also holds a BFA in Communication Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University and has worked as a graphic and web designer since 2012.

Elizabeth’s experience with acupuncture began out of pure curiosity in her early 20’s when she realized that although she wasn’t struggling with any specific health issue, she could feel that something was “out of balance.” This feeling led her to the office of acupuncturist Kristina Aschenbach in Richmond, Virginia. After a series of treatments, she felt a shift in both her physical and mental health, experiencing more relaxation and a better mood for days after treatment. The advice she received from Aschenbach regarding nutrition, lifestyle and mindfulness has stayed with her ever since and eventually inspired her to pursue a path in Chinese Medicine.

Elizabeth’s background in design is deeply connected to her career in the healing arts as they seamlessly combine knowledge of the physical form and our own intuition and creativity to treat the body, mind and spirit. As a permanently curious lifelong learner, Elizabeth is interested in exploring the intersections between traditional healing modalities and our modern understanding of anatomy and physiology. She was drawn to the Chinese Medical Theory approach because it treats the whole person, seeing everything as affecting everything, rather than viewing the body in a compartmentalized, myopic way. She focuses on the mind-body connection in seeking to resolve chronic and acute pain, stress, sleep problems, and digestive disorders, among others.

In addition to acupuncture and adjunct modalities including cupping, guasha, shiatsu and moxibustion, Elizabeth’s sessions offer movement-based therapies, nutrition counseling and lifestyle advice to empower her clients on their health journey beyond the treatment room. She truly believes acupuncture can help everyone, no matter where they are in life, and considers it an honor to make a difference in someone’s health and to hopefully instill lifelong change for the better.
